Come enjoy “From the Blessed to Broadway” with the Rev. Father Gregory Daigle and Mrs. Jan Grimes on at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Concordia Bank Lobby in Vidalia.
Father Gregory Daigle attended both Loyola School of Music in New Orleans and Louisiana State University College of Music in Baton Rouge as well as Notre Dame Roman Catholic Seminary in New Orleans. He toured two summers with the Rome Festival Orchestra in Rome, Italy. He has performed with the Delaware Opera Company, Virginia Opera and other Opera Companies along the East Coast. He has been guest soloist for Chorale Acadienne in Lafayette, La., and has given numerous concerts in the Baton Rouge area.
Father Daigle was ordained a priest for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge in June of 1993 and has served in several church parishes prior to his current assignment at Immaculate Conception Church in Lakeland, La., for the past eight years. Although his training and performance background has been focused on classic opera, classical and sacred music, Father Daigle has also enjoyed performing great music from musical theater. This season痴 concert will have selections from each of these genres.
As a Roman Catholic priest, Father Daigle follows in the greatest traditions of sacred music, which have brought about the birth of secular music. Pope Benedict XVI recently stated to a group of visiting artists, 擢faith takes nothing away from your genius of art; on the contrary it exalts them and nourishes them. Bringing together in a wonderful form, the sacred and the secular, Father Daigle will offer for all in attendance an evening of beauty and joy!
Mrs. Grimes is a returning favorite of Concordia Parish and has degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Louisiana State University. Her collaborative performances have taken her to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and Constitution Hall, as well as concert stages at universities and community centers across the United States and Canada. She has served as accompanist for clinics and master classes of world renowned teachers such as Josef Gingold, Philip Farkas, Bonita Boyd and Camillia Wickes.
So mark your calendars for “From the Blessed to Broadway” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Concordia Bank in Vidalia.
The Rev. Louis Sklar is the pastor of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Ferriday.
