VIDALIA — A video circulating on the Internet shows a City of Vidalia employee, along with two other apparently on-duty city employees, cleaning the yard of a private residence.
The video, posted on YouTube last Wednesday and viewed 280 times by Monday, shows who appears to be Vidalia Fire Department Chief Jack Langston, along with the other city employees picking up shrubs and hauling them off.
The two city employees are dressed in their work clothes.
A truck with a City of Vidalia logo on the side is parked in front of the house.
A bulldozer being used by those in the video can also be seen.
Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland acknowledged that city employees should not be working on private property and said he had already been made aware of the incident, and had already taken action.
“It’s a personnel issue,” he said. “I have taken care of it, and it will never happen again.”
According to the Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics, a public servant may not receive anything of economic value for the performance of his official duties, other than his salary and related benefits from his governmental entity to which he is entitled.
Langston could not be reached for comment regarding the incident.
