VIDALIA — The Delta Bank Cowboys used a two-hit combo of a strong running game and stifling defense in the Miss-Lou Youth Football 12-and-under Super Bowl Saturday.

The Cowboys’ Deairus Brown tallied three touchdown runs en route to a 32-0 win against the Great River Chevrolet Eagles. Cowboys head coach Carter Warner said his team was able to overcome a rough start to win the 12-and-under championship.

“We started off 0-3, and everyone said we wouldn’t do anything and we were through,” Warner said.

“Our team hasn’t lost a game since. They came back and won the Super Bowl. We had enough players, and the players wanted to win.”

The Cowboys’ first touchdown came with 20 seconds left in the first quarter. Brown scored on a 22-yard carry, and Julian Wilson ran in the two-point conversion.

The Cowboys added eight more in the third quarter on a 20-yard run by Brown. Despite a celebration penalty after the touchdown, Brown connected with Joey Russell on a 15-yard pass to get the two-point conversion.

Brown scored his final touchdown of the day on a 3-yard run with 3:05 left in the fourth, and Wilson ran in the two-point conversion.

Later in the quarter, Rara Moore patted down a pass from the Eagles’ Dylan Mallory, but caught the ball before it hit the ground. He then ran it 18 yards for a touchdown. Wilson ran in the two-point conversion.

Miss-Lou Youth Football Director Mike Bowlin said the players in the league were learning valuable football skills.

“This feeds all the junior high and high school programs,” Bowlin said.

“All these kids are going to end up in junior high and high school, and this teaches them all the basics, so they don’t have to do that in junior high.”
