Veterans inspire week of good news

We paused this week to say a very important “thank you,” but we know our patriotic nature will continue the appreciation for veterans every day of the year.

Veterans Day ceremonies at Vidalia and Ferriday high schools and Copiah-Lincoln Community College highlighted the week’s good news, but let’s review a few other tidbits.

Cathedral Elementary School students have a new reason to take their creative writing assignments seriously. The students learned last week that even students can publish books. A New Orleans high school student shared her story, inspiring the young authors.

Another great Angels on the Bluff tour has come and gone, and this year even more people were able to enjoy it. The organizers added a third night of tours. Thanks to all the volunteer actors who gave up another night to entertain all of us.

A group of Morgantown Elementary School fifth-graders recently completed elaborate re-creations of Native American houses, tepees and huts. The hands-on project certainly left many more memories in the young minds than simply looking at pictures in a book might have. We appreciate the teacher who made this lesson interactive.

As we begin a new week, it’s difficult to believe Thanksgiving is so close. The holiday events will begin soon, and Christmas is a great time to be in Natchez.
