NATCHEZ — Last Saturday afternoon, Trinity Episcopal’s Madelyn Cross was one steal shy of a triple-double in the Lady Saints’ stunning win on the road at Class A powerhouse Riverdale Academy — 16 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals.

What could she possibly do for an encore as Trinity Episcopal played host to Class AAA Parklane Academy Tuesday night at Clyde Adams Arena? How about score a game-high 21 points in leading the Lady Saints to a 42-36 win over the Lady Pioneers.

However, it wasn’t just Cross who came up big in giving Trinity its second straight win of the season after getting off to an 0-3 start. Margaret Ward and Bethany Ogden combined to score 15 points and Trinity’s defense kept Parklane stymied throughout the first three quarters. Ward finished with eight points and Ogden added seven points.

The Lady Saints held the Lady Pioneers to just four points in the first quarter and led 12-4 at the end of the quarter. Trinity then outscored Parklane 15-8 in the second quarter to take a commanding 27-12 lead at halftime.

Even though Trinity’s shooting went a little cold in the third quarter, Parklane only managed a 9-7 advantage and went into the fourth quarter trailing by 13 points.

The Lady Pioneers’ comeback attempt in the fourth quarter fell a little short despite outscoring the Lady Saints 15-8. Molly Adams scored 10 points and Emily Alford chipped in with eight points to lead Parklane.

Leondra Shaw and Kierra Sykes each had 11 points and Jessica Jackson finished with 10 points for Franklin County (4-0). After giving up 13 points in the first quarter, the Lady Dawgs allowed no more than six points in each of the final three quarters.

“We did a good job in the first half pressing. Running our press well,” Franklin County head coach Charles Moore said. “Second half we worked on our half-court defense. I’m proud of the fact that we kept them in single digits the last three quarters.”

The Lady Dawgs led 24-13 after one quarter of play and 45-19 at halftime. The third quarter was about as bad as it could get for the Lady Wildcats as they were outscored 22-4 and trialed by 44 points going into the third quarter.

“I liked the way my girls played coming off the bench and kept up the intensity. We’ve got a real good group of seniors,” Moore said.

MEADVILLE — Kentavious Bowie scored 12 points and his 3-pointer with about 30 seconds left proved to be the game-winner as Franklin County rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat Salem Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs had their issues trying to contain Salem’s one-two punch of D.J. Harness and Neil Quinn in the first half as the duo helped the Wildcats take a 39-28 lead into halftime.

But Franklin County responded in the second half by outscoring Salem 14-9 in the third quarter and 26-20 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. With the game tied at 71-71, Bowie made the biggest shot to date of his career to give the Bulldogs a 74-71 lead.

Salem made a two-pointer with 3 seconds left to cut the deficit to one point, but Franklin County ran the clock out to seal the win.

Milton Griffin finished with 19 points and Derrick Buthley had 18 points to lead the Bulldogs. Harness ended up with a game-high 23 points and Quinn scored 22 points for Salem.

“Our kids played hard,” Rams head coach Billy Caston said.
