Turkey trot set for downtown Saturday

NATCHEZ — Downtown drivers need to watch out for running — and walking — turkeys Saturday morning.

Runners and walkers are hitting the streets Saturday morning for the first Turkey Trot 5K sponsored by Natchez Regional Medical Center and the Christmas in Natchez committee.

There is also a one-mile fun run for children.

Race registration starts at 8 a.m. near the gazebo on the Mississippi River Bluff.

The 5K run and walk begins at 9 a.m. and the fun run will begin at 10 a.m.

Registration for the 5K is $25 and $10 for the fun run.

The fun run is open to children under 12.

Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners of the 5K and to first, second and third-place finishers in each age group of the 5K.

The age groups for the 5K are 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70 and over.

Age groups for the fun run are 5 and under, 6 and 7, 8 and 9 and 10 and 11.

Race packets for those that pre-registered will be available beginning at 8 a.m. at the registration table.

Both races will begin and end on Broadway Street in downtown Natchez.
