BROOKHAVEN — L.J. Trimble had his best game of the season as he had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds as Trinity Episcopal defeated Leake Academy 68-59 Thursday night at the Brookhaven Academy Holiday Tournament.
In addition to his double-double, Trimble also blocked a couple of shots. Tip McKenzie scored 19 points and Givonni Dent almost had a double-double of his own with eight points and 11 rebounds.
If anyone thought the Saints would not bounce back after a tough double-overtime loss to Central Private on Wednesday, they thought wrong.
And this was in the consolation game was against a Leake Academy team that lost to host Brookhaven Academy by just six points less than 24 hours earlier.
Trinity Episcopal took a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and continued to keep the pressure on the Rebels in the second quarter en route to a 41-30 halftime lead.
For those Leake Academy fans who made the trip from Madden hoping for a rally in the second half, it wasn’t meant to be.
The Saints kept a safe distance between themselves and Leake Academy the entire second half.
Both teams scored 15 points in the third quarter, and even though Leake outscored Trinity 14-12 in the fourth, it wasn’t nearly enough.
Aaron Sheppard and Hank Coleman scored 15 points apiece to lead Leake Academy and Grant Wilson added 11 points.
Trinity Episcopal plays host to Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
