NATCHEZ — Services for Colvin L. Mizell, 85, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Parkway Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Brewer officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday, both at the church.

Mr. Mizell was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Blodgett, the son of E.L. Mizell and Edwina Morris Mizell. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher for the Men’s Heaven Bound Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Gideon International. He was affectionately known as the “Candy Man.”

He spent most mornings with friends at the Natchez Coffee Shop. He loved and lived life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Gertrude Nolen Mizell; and two brothers, Murray Mizell and Edward Mizell.

Survivors include one son, Glenn Mizell and wife, Debbie; one daughter, Linda Garrett and husband, Irvin, all of Natchez; five grandchildren, Randall Garrett and Michael Garrett, both of Lexington, S.C., Amanda Hodges of Brookhaven, Nathan Redfield of Jackson and Bryan Redfield of Nashville; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie Mizell and wife, Carmella, of Natchez; two sisters, Elsie Freeman of Alexandria, La., and Grace Foster and husband, Ernest, of Natchez; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Jackson, Forrest Foster, Randall Garrett, Michael Garrett, Jason Cole and E.J. Forman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Kenneth Stubbs and the Men’s Heaven Bound Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Parkway Baptist Church or Gideon International.
