Krew of Phoenix 2011 royalty announced

NATCHEZ — The Krewe of Phoenix recently announced its royal court for the 2011 Mardi Gras season.

The krewe’s theme this year is the “Magic of Motown.”

The call out ball will be Jan. 29 and the grand ball will be March 5.

The parade will be at 5 p.m., March 4.

Brad LeMay, Rex XXIX

Brad is a new Natchez resident, hailing from Hot Springs, Ark., where he was a founding member of the Central Arkansas Cardiovascular Institute, PA and affiliated with the group for the last 17 years.

He received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science.

He also completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science.

Currently, he serves on the board of governors for the American College of Cardiology for Arkansas as well as the cardiovascular advisory board for the Sisters of Mercy system in St. Louis.

Brad is a cardiologist with Jackson Heart Clinic of Natchez and on the medical staff at Natchez Regional Medical Center. Brad serves on the board of directors for the Natchez Festival of Music and is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. His hobbies include collecting antique furniture, reading, imperial Russian history and traveling.

Dee Newman, Rosalie XXIX

Dee is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where she received a bachelor of Science Degree in 1972, and a master of science degree in 1976. She is the land manager with Callon Petroleum Company. Dee has been with Callon since 1980.

She served as the Krewe of Phoenix Duchess Panmure in 1997. She is a member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club, St. Mary Basilica, the Mississippi State University Alumni Association, the Mississippi State Bulldog Club and Bully Bloc.

For relaxation the Newman family spends as much time as possible at “Work Over,” the family home on Lake St. John. Dee’s other hobbies include traveling in the family RV and attending MSU sporting events.

Dee is married to Stephen K. Newman. They have two children, Angel Camp of Amory and this year’s Krewe of Phoenix Duchess Panmure, Christine Newman, and two grandchildren, Lindsey and Ashley Camp.

Morgan Ryan — Duke Great Sun

Jack “Morgan” Ryan Jr. is a 2002 graduate of Block High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Louisiana Tech University in 2006.

He currently owns and operates Vital Oil Well Services and Miss-Lou Oil Well Supply in Vidalia. Morgan is married to his wife of three years, Jessica Ganey Ryan, and they live at “The Depot” in Natchez, along with their two dogs Mercedez and McKenzie.

Betsy Iles — Duchess La

Betsy is a graduate of Trinity Episcopal School and Mississippi State University. She currently works as a sales associate for Crye-Leike Stedman Realtors where she has been selling real estate for eight years. She is a member of the National Association of Realtors, Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce and United States Tennis Association.

Betsy is also a graduate of the 2009 Leadership Natchez Class. For the past two years she has served as a board member for the Natchez Cancer Tennis Association which hosts an annual tennis tournament fundraiser. She is a frequent volunteer for Natchez Children’s Home Services.

Her hobbies include playing tennis, running/exercising, reading and traveling. She is married to Geoff Iles.

Carter Burns — Duke of

Carter is a Natchez native and graduate of Trinity Episcopal Day School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Millsaps College where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 2005. He subsequently served as law clerk for Judge John Roper, the chief magistrate judge for the Southern District of Mississippi, before accepting his current position as senior attorney in the Right of Way Division of the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Carter presently resides in Jackson, where he is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Capital Area Bar Association and Jackson Young Lawyers.

He is also a member of the Natchez Santa Claus Committee, the Historic Natchez Foundation and attends First Baptist Church.

He is an avid history buff and his other hobbies include reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Carter is the son of Diane and Peter Burns Jr.

Laren Hammond — Duchess Marie Therese

Laren is a graduate of Monterey High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorders from the University of Mississippi in 2007, and a Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2009.

She is employed as a speech-language pathologist for the Concordia Parish School System. Laren is a member of both the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, and the Louisiana Speech-Language Hearing Association. Her hobbies include traveling, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Laren is married to Carr Hammond and they have a miniature dachshund named Marlee.

Justin Adcock — Duke Monfort Browne

Justin is a territory representative with Benco, a privately held Dental Equipment and Supply Company. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi College. Justin is married to Dr. Carmen O. Adcock and has two daughters, Sela and Aven. He enjoys hunting and fishing.

Christine Newman — Duchess Panmure

Christine is a native of Natchez and currently resides in Flowood. She is the daughter of Stephen and Dee Newman. She succeeds her mother as 1997 Duchess Panmure.

She is a graduate of Cathedral High School and Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

She received an associate degree in nursing from Hinds Community College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama Birmingham.

She is a Registered Nurse and is a member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church. Her hobbies including reading, traveling, spending time with friends and family at Lake St. John and attending Mississippi State athletic events.

William Jones III — Duke Manuel Gayosa de Limos

Will was born in Natchez and currently lives in Clinton. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Jones Jr. and has one brother Parker Britt Jones, all of Natchez.

He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Britt Jr. of Minter City and the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Thuruston Jones Sr.

Jones graduated from Trinity Episcopal Day School in 2000 and received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi College in 2004 and 2006, respectively. He also attended the University of Alicante in Alicante, Spain.

Jones has worked for the U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers, Engineering Research and Development Center in Vicksburg since 2004. He serves as a research chemist in the Environmental Laboratory. He was recently selected for the Leadership Development Program, and is a member of the American Chemical Society.

Jones grew up at First Baptist Church of Natchez and currently attends St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral of Jackson. He is also a member of the Krewe of Fat Mama’s and Cedar Grove Hunting Club of Natchez. He enjoys the outdoors, hunting and traveling. He has an English springer spaniel named Beaux Duke.

Lynn Byrne Janette — Duchess Marguerite Theresa de Limos

Lynn is a graduate of Cathedral High School and Our Lady of the Lake College.

While attending college, she was among Who’s Who of Radiologic Technologists. She is a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the Natchez Garden Club, Krewe of Killarney and St. Mary Basilica.

Lynn enjoys playing tennis, running and watching Ole Miss football. She is married to Luke Janette and they have one daughter, Halle Grace.

Stephen Michel — Duke of Monmouth

Stephen is a 1999 graduate of Cathedral High School and a 2004 graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture. While at Mississippi State, Stephen worked for the Alumni Association.

Stephen currently resides in Baton Rouge where he is a landscape architect with Corporate Green Landscape Management Firm, specializing in residential design. In his free time, Stephen enjoys traveling, coming back to Natchez, golf, duck hunting and spending time with his golden retriever, Rigsby.

Abby Laird — Duchess Eliza Lowe Little

Abby is a graduate of Cathedral High School, Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Abby then attended Southern Medical Corporation in Baton Rouge where she received her certification in cardiovascular ultrasound.

She is currently employed by Natchez Regional Medical Center and Natchez Community Hospital. Abby is the daughter of Gene and Laura Laird, and sister to Brittany and a member of St. Mary Basilica.

In her spare time, she enjoys summers at Lake St. John, shopping, spending time with her family and friends and her pug, Sydney.

Walt Roddy — Duke Jefferson Davis

Walt, a five-year resident of Natchez is information services director at Natchez Regional Medical Center.

He is a graduate of Mississippi State University, and worked for the NSA for seven years before returning to Mississippi.

Walt is a 2010 graduate of the Leadership Natchez Class and serves on the Natchez City Mayor’s Advisory Committee for Technology.

More importantly, he is the 2010 Champion of the Gulf Coast Racing Series where he races a Porsche 944.

Walt is married to Teri Taylor Roddy. The couple met ballroom dancing and now teach ballroom dancing at Co-Lin. The couple has two grown children, Nick who is a new Natchez resident and manages the parts department and internet marketing for Peddler’s Outdoor, and Christie who lives in Brandon and is a behavior analyst with Children’s Center for Behavioral Sciences.

The couple’s third child is their Schnauzer Maggie who is lucky enough to stay home and sleep all day.

Walt and Teri have been Krewe of Phoenix members since moving to Natchez and are active in Natchez Downtown Development Association.

Holly Hall Aldredge — Duchess Varina Howell Davis

Holly is a graduate of Trinity Episcopal Day School. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in graphic design from The University of Mississippi, and her masters degree in graphic design from Savannah College of Art and Design.

She is the marketing and advertising Coordinator for Dave Perry-Miller & Associates Real Estate Company in Dallas, Texas.

Holly is a member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club and the Blondes vs. Brunettes organization in Dallas that raises money for Alzheimer’s.

Her hobbies include painting, cooking and watching football.

She is the daughter of the late Dr. David Hall, who served as chairman of the Krewe’s Chili Cook-off team and as Duke Jefferson Davis in 1997, and of Christina Hall who served as Queen Rosalie XXII in 2004.

Holly is married to Parker Aldredge and they live in Dallas with their boxer, Duke.
