VIDALIA — An injured hunter was rescued in the Red River Wildlife Management Area Wednesday morning by officials from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and Metro Ambulance Services.

According to reports from the CPSO, the hunter from Lake Charles was unable to move after his deer stand collapsed on him while hunting.

According to CPSO Lt. Todd Ainsworth, the 48-year-old man was hunting in the wildlife management area accompanied by two other men who had all separated during the hunt.

The hunter was able to contact his wife in Lake Charles by cell phone, who in turn contacted the CPSO at approximately 9:46 a.m. Wednesday.

Ainsworth located the hunter’s truck on Catfish Bayou Road and soon found the hunter lying on the ground, still snared by the deer stand.

Ainsworth said the hunter appeared to have back injuries from his approximate 15-foot fall out of the tree.

The hunter was taken in an ambulance to a roadway, and was then airlifted to an Alexandria area hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service.

The Red River Wildlife Management Area is located approximately 35 miles south of Ferriday on Louisiana 15 in the lower part of Concordia Parish.
