VIDALIA – Services for Claude Ray “Skeeter” Hammett, 80, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sycamore Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Cullum and the Rev. Mack Walker officiating.

Burial will follow at Greelawn Memorial Park under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Hammett was born Oct.16, 1930, in Ferriday, the son of Claude F. and Virginia W. Hammett.

He was the retired owner of Hammett House Movers, Inc. and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a life-long resident of Concordia Parish. Mr. Hammett was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Hammett was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark W. Hammett; and a brother, Donald Hammett.

Survivors include his wife, Marie W. Hammett of Vidalia; two sons, Kary Michael “Butch” Hammett and wife, Barbara, of Vidalia and Paul Douglas Hammett and wife, Dee, of Lake St. John; one brother, David Hammett of Lafayette, La.; one sister, Dorothy Borden of Terre Haute, Ind.; six grandchildren, Rhiannon Money, Jody Hammett, Rani Daye, Ashlee Hammett, Josh Hammett and Corey Hammett; and nine great grandchildren.
