Trinity girls and boys advance to state championship

BENTON — The Trinity Episcopal varsity girls basketball team advanced to the MAIS Class A state championship game Friday with a 43-22 win against Marvell Academy in the Class A state tournament at Benton Academy.
The Lady Saints will face Delta Academy at 2:15 p.m. Saturday in a rematch of last year’s Class A state championship game. Trinity lost last year’s game 38-33.
Madelyn Cross led the Lady Saints in scoring against Marvell Academy with 19 points, and was 7-for-8 at the free throw line. Bethany Ogden tallied 13 points, was 3-for-3 in foul shots and had 12 rebounds. Rosie Woods had six points and Margaret Ward finished with five points.
Trinity rose to 28-8 on the season.
The Trinity boys also advance to the Class A state championship game, defeating Porter’s Chapel 66-48 Friday night. The Saints will play Greenville Christian Academy at 7:15 Saturday night.
