Monterey pitching leads them to win

MONTEREY — Paige Bryan scattered six hits and struck out six batters in a complete-game performance as the Monterey Lady Wolves defeated the Glenmora Lady Wildcats 4-1 Tuesday afternoon to remain undefeated in LHSAA District 6-B.

Bryan got all the run support she needed in the bottom of the first inning as Monterey scored three runs. Karlee Woodruff singled to score Ellen Bairnsfather and Jody Duncan. Taylor Morace reached on an error and scored when Ashley Wilson laid down a sacrifice bunt.

Glenmora scored its only run of the game in the top of the fourth. Monterey scored its last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Woodruff ended up going 3-for-4 with the two runs batted in. All 10 of the Lady Wolves’ hits were singles.

Losing pitcher Joni Johnson went 2-for-3 with a double, as did Adrienne Melder, to lead the Lady Wildcats at the plate.

Monterey (11-1, 2-0) hits the road to take on Rapides Thursday at 4 p.m.
