Baseball roundups: Towles, Hurst power Centreville past ASC Friday

CENTREVILLE — Tyler Towles and Cliff Hurst combined to go 5-for-6 with each hitting a home run as the third-ranked Centreville Academy Tigers took care of the Amite School Center Rebels 10-0 Friday afternoon in five innings.
Centreville ended the game early by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to trigger the 10-run rule. The Tigers broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the second that gave them a 6-0 lead.
Winning pitcher Corey Gaulden held ASC to five hits while striking out four and walking just one batter in five innings. Brandon Hood took the loss for ASC.
The Tigers ended up with 13 hits in the game. Towles went 3-for-3 and Hurst was 2-for-3. Alex Felder went 3-for-3 with a triple, Colby Shaw was 2-for-3 and Gage Chandler had a double.
Centreville (9-4) hosts Bowling Green School today with the junior varsity game at 1 p.m. and the varsity game at 3 p.m.
