Softball signup continues

NATCHEZ — The Natchez-Adams County Girls Softball League has decided to extend its registration period until March 26, league board member Bridget Wactor said.

Registration is starting to pick up as the season draws near, but more girls are still needed, especially in the older age groups, Wactor said.

Due to confusion, about when registration actually started this year, the league was not getting as many registrations as they were expecting, Wactor said.

But, registration picked up last week and the league still has players coming in, Wactor said.

“The 13- to 18-year-old group is where we are hurting right now,” Wactor said.

“We really need girls in this group. All girls interested in playing softball in this group, (we want them to know) we are still taking them.”

All girls, ages 5-18, can register at Sports Center, for the cost of $50 for the first child and $45 for any additional children. New girls to the league need to bring a copy of their birth certificate.

The Natchez-Adams softball league has also added a pony tail league, which is for girls ages 3 and 4. The cost to register for this league is $40 per child.

The pony tail league is non-competitive and mainly for girls to come out and have a good time, Wactor said.

The season is set to start on the weekend of April 28-30, with a jamboree event to kick off the regular season. League play begins on May 2, Wactor said.

“If there are any girls this summer that do not have much to do, they should come out and play some softball,” Wactor said.
