Softball roundups: Monterey falls 12-2
HINESTON, La. — The Monterey High School softball team managed just two runs in the second inning as Oak Hill High School handed Monterey its second loss of the season Tuesday.
Paige Bryan took the loss, yielding eight hits and striking out two batters. Oak Hill’s Amber Jarrell got the win, giving up six hits, no walks and striking out nine batters.
Monterey’s Taylor Morace was its only multiple hitter, finishing the game 2-for-3. Oak Hill’s Catie Smith went 3-for-4, and Jarrell had a good night at the plate as well, going 2-for-3.
Monterey fell to 12-2 on the season, 3-1 in district.
Natchez High 17, Port Gibson 11
Michaela Hutchins got the win for Natchez, going seven innings and striking out seven Tuesday night.
NHS rose to 1-3 on the season.
