GLOSTER — Services for Leonard Alney “High Pockets” Whittington, 73, a longtime resident of Gloster, who died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville, will be at 2 p.m. today at Zion Hill Baptist Church near Gloster with the Rev. Robert Toney and the Rev. Alton Foster officiating.
Burial will follow at New Hope Methodist-Protestant Church Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Gloster.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.
Mr. Whittington was born Jan. 4, 1938, in Gloster, the son of George Lewell Whittington and Winnie Brantley Huff. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and gardening. He was retired from Georgia-Pacific Company as a supervisor.
Mr. Whittington attended Zion Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Susan McLain Whittington; three sons, Dwayne Whittington and Jason Whittington, both of Gloster, and Marty Whittington and wife, Tina, of Centreville; one daughter, Traci Holland and husband, Bill, of Natchez; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Megan, Chase, Paige, Jared, Matthew and Rami; three great-grandchildren, Maddilynne, Nyah and Davin; one brother, Larry Whittington and wife, Angie; one sister, Barbara Whitehead and husband, Doyle, all of Gloster; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Whittington, Marty Whittington, Jason Whittington, Matthew Whittington, Jared Whittington, Glen Sterling, David Bradley and Gary Sterling.
Honorary pallbearers will be Men of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Eddie Forman, Doyle Whitehead, Terry Short, Steve Carroll Rollins, Arnell Rollins, Joe Boykin, Tommy Vinnet and Jackie Whittington.
