NATCHEZ — Natchez High School basketball fans will be treated to some old faces at 5 tonight at the school’s Mary Jean Irving Gymnasium.
NHS will host its first annual NHS Alumni All-Star Night, which will feature former Bulldog and Lady Bulldog basketball players.
The event will feature male and female alumni games, a three-point shootout and a basketball skills challenge. Admission is $5, and event coordinator Corey Isaac said all proceeds will go toward NHS.
“Our school is facing major budget cuts, and our children and community are the future,” said Isaac, who graduated from NHS in 1997.
“I just wanted to do something to bring unity back to the City of Natchez and give back to the school.”
The funds will help keep extra curricular programs at the school, Isaac said, as well as help with buying things like school supplies.
“We hope this event will bring together Bulldog pride,” he said. “Hopefully, despite the budget cuts, a lot of the programs won’t go by the wayside.”
Isaac said a banner that the schools designed will represent each school in the Natchez-Adams School District. He also said former players Edwin Harris, Jarrod Ford and James West will be honored, along with former coach Mary Jean Irving, for whom the gymnasium is named.
“I’m expecting a packed-out gym (tonight),” Isaac said. “We just want the community to come out, and we thank them for the support.”
