IRVINE, Calif. — A celebration of life for Vernon Faris George, 67, who died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Hoag Hospital in Irvine, Calif., was Monday, April 4, 2011 in Irvine.

Mr. George was born June 16, 1943, in Norton, Va., the son of Vernon and Mildred Robbins George.

Mr. George was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School. He attended the University of Mississippi where he served in the U.S. Air Force ROTC and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He served in the Air Force as an aeronautical engineer during the Vietnam War.

Following his discharge from the Air Force, Mr. George had a career in sales and for most of his life a career in real estate development. He was retired for the last 10 years. He was a Master Mason in the Masonic Order. He enjoyed sports, travel and collecting wine.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Pettengill George; three sons, Faris George, Ryan Stateler and wife, Xantha, and Brandon Stateler; one daughter, Elizabeth George; two brothers, Joe George and wife, Becky, and Laforest George and wife, Jane; one sister, Melody George Logan and husband, Robert; and 10 nieces and nephews.
