NATCHEZ — Duncan Park will host the 18th annual Natchez Adams County Chamber of Commerce golf tournament at 1 p.m. today.
In years past, Beau Pré Country Club hosted the tournament, but the inclusion of a round robin mixed-up doubles tennis tournament prompted the move to Duncan Park.
Melanie Tripp, who works at the chamber, said 19 teams were currently signed up for golf, and she’s expecting at least 20 tennis teams.
“We wanted to include more people, which was the reason for adding tennis,” Trippe said. “We’re looking to include both chamber and non-chamber people.”
Duncan Park Golf Superintendent Greg Brooking said he’s happy his course has the opportunity to host the tournament this year.
“Our field’s in good condition, so I think people will enjoy themselves,” Brooking said.
“We still have a little damage left from the vandalism that happened a while back, but it’s mostly healed over. You can still see the tire tracks on hole 18, but it’s definitely playable.”
Registration for both golf and tennis will be at the park’s tennis courts at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:30. An after hours roast will start at approximately 6 p.m., and a ball drop is scheduled for 6:15, courtesy of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Tickets for the ball drop are $20, with a $1,000 grand prize for the first ball to fall in.
“It should be a fun time,” Trippe said. “All proceeds will go toward the chamber, and we’ll have trophies and awards to hand out. There’s a hole scramble, so it’s not just basic golf.”
