MOSS POINT — Services for Freddie “Wope” Fitzgerald, 63, of Moss Point, who entered into eternal peace Monday, April 4, 2011, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Moss Point.
Arrangements are under the direction of Unity Funeral Home in Moss Point.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born Feb. 21, 1948, in Natchez, the son of Linton Fitzgerald and Irene Ikard Fitzgerald.
He was formerly a member of Richland Baptist Church in Church Hill and was a 1968 graduate of Walter L. Cohen High School in New Orleans. After graduating from high school, Freddie served in the U.S. Army, having completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.
He moved to Moss Point where he was employed by Ingalls Shipyard from 1974 to 1985. Freddie and Neta Jones were married April 10, 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Luvenia Oliver and Alene Price; and one brother, Robert “Pee Wee” Fitzgerald.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Neta Jones Fitzgerald; three children, Catina Fitzgerald and Calvin Higgins, of New Orleans, Robert Fitzgerald of Moss Point and Roneta Molden and John Mack, of South Carolina; 11 sisters, Dorothy F. Howard and husband, C.H., of Pine Bluff, Ark., Beulah Fitzgerald, Doris Fitzgerald, Shirley Frazier and husband, Billy Joe, Loretta Fitzgerald and Doretta Fitzgerald, all of Natchez, Alma Y. Morris, Bertha Thomas, Ethel Fitzgerald, Betty Ellzey and Annette Fitzgerald, all of Los Angeles; two brothers, Linton Fitzgerald Jr. and wife, Betty, of Natchez and Richard Lyons and wife, Annette, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two uncles, Will T. Fitzgerald and wife, Nan, of Vidalia and Robert Ikard of Los Angeles; two aunts, Althea Ford and Lucille Clark, both of Natchez; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
