NORTH CAROLINA — A celebration of life service for James Arthur “Jim” Gentsch Jr., 76, of Hendersonville, N.C., who died Monday, April 4, 2011, at his residence, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel by Cynthia Reed, life celebrant.

Arrangements are under the direction of Thos. Shepherd and Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the clubhouse of Cummings Cove Country Club, 20 Cummings Cove Parkway, Hendersonville, N.C. 28739.

Mr. Gentsch was born March 11, 1935, in Winona, the son of James Arthur Gentsch Sr. and Lois Walker Gentsch. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi, “Ole Miss,” with a degree in engineering and played fullback for the football team.

Jim was a self employed engineer. He enjoyed hunting and went on a number of big game trips.

Jim had an extensive gun collection and was regarded by his friends as a “world class shot.”

On Nov. 24, 2000, Jim married Gail Gaylord who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two stepsons; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Myrna Browning and husband, William, of Natchez.
