Let’s get that ball rolling, together

Tate Hobdy likely didn’t intend to make a pun when he talked about the county recreation project this week.
“We can hopefully get some questions answered and get the ball rolling on this project,” the recreation commission chair said.
But rolling balls is literally one of the things we hope to soon see at a brand new Adams County recreation complex.
Hobdy and the commission he leads are still at the top of the hill though, and they have no power to push this all-important ball down that hill.
The power lies in the hands of three boards — the Adams County Board of Supervisors, the Natchez Board of Aldermen and the Natchez-Adams School Board.
The boards and the commission will meet Thursday to discuss pushing.
We hope all members of all three power-wielding boards will come to the table ready to listen, compromise and work together.
The elephant in the middle of the pitcher’s mound — money — is bound to throw a few strikes as the project eyes first base. With three heavy hitters in the lineup all ready to work together, ending this inning should be difficult.
The people of Natchez and Adams County have entrusted our future to elected leaders and the appointed school board members those leaders chose. Those same area residents have clearly said they want a recreation complex in their future.
The good news? Everyone here plays on the same team, and we are all looking forward to the victory party at the bottom of the hill.
