5 p.m. update: Silver Street work hits minor snag

NATCHEZ — The current Mississippi River stage is 53.97.
The National Weather Service is monitoring a weather system in mid-Mississippi Saturday and Sunday that could produce rainfall.
Work to protect Silver Street buildings stalled earlier when crews realized the weight of the Hesco Bastions filled with sand was too heavy for a particular section of ground to hold, but adjustments have been made to the configuration and work has restarted.
Concordia Parish officials said at a meeting earlier today that the Mississippi River will likely be at flood stage in to July, due the release of water in reservoirs in and above the Ohio Valley.
Officials also said the opening of the Bonnet Carre spillway planned for Monday will have no effect on the river levels at Natchez.
Until flood worries wane, The Natchez Democrat will post daily river updates at noon and 5 p.m. Breaking news and other alerts will be posted throughout the day, as available.
