NATCHEZ — Services for Vernel “Buck” Singleton, 66, of Natchez, who died Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. J.L. Hammitte officiating.
Burial will follow at LaGrange Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Singleton was born Feb. 23, 1945, in Natchez, the son of William Singleton III and Josephine Byrd Singleton. He retired from R.W. Delaney Construction Oilfield Services in 1999 after a number of years of loyal service.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Jo Ellen Johnson Singleton; one son, Vernel Singleton Jr. of Miami, Fla.; one daughter, Jameika Grants and husband, Demetrius, Desoto, Texas; two brothers, Ernest Singleton and wife, Gloria, and William Singleton IV and wife, Getta; two sisters, Thelma Stancel and Ella King and husband, Harrison; one aunt, Daisy S. Green, all of Natchez; four sisters-in-law, Jessie Huff and husband, Clyde, and Irlyn Griffin, all of Natchez, Daisy Thomas and Doris Bridges and husband, James, of Dallas; three brothers-in-law, Charles Johnson of Natchez, John Johnson and Terry Johnson, both of Dallas; five grandchildren, Sakari Singleton and Jalan Singleton, both of Winston-Salem, N.C., Ava Cloonan of Oswego, N.Y., Jayden Grant and Damien Grant, both of Texas; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Bryant White, Tyrone White, Charles Johnson, Kevin Arbuthnot, Isiah Washington and Freddie Weir.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harrison L. King III, Dwight Smith, Tom Singleton, Curt “Ingar” Singleton, Charles Walker, Terry Johnson, James Bridges, John W. Johnson and Clyde Huff Sr.
