NATCHEZ — Services for Renee Mackel Dawson, 53, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at River Regional Hospital in Vicksburg, will be at 11a.m. Monday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Scott officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Mrs. Dawson was born May 1, 1958, in Natchez, the daughter of Walter Mackel and Augustine Boyd Mackel. She was a 1976 graduate of North Natchez High School. She was a member of Zion Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a former lab/X-ray technician with for Dr. Camatsos’ office, a former employee of International Paper Company and a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Dawson Sr.; four sons, Walter James Mackel and wife, LaTanya, of Natchez, Willie Dawson of Holly Springs, Antonio Dawson and Robert Dawson Jr. and wife, Yalonda, all of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Meghin Nicole Dawson; her father, all of Natchez; six sisters, B. Gail Scott and husband, Jerry, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Brenda Anderson, Esther Mackel, Lynda Washington and husband, Leon, and Joyce Hauer and husband, Alvin, all of Natchez, and Geraldine Haynes and husband, Dwight, of Roxie; one brother, Walter B. Mackel Jr. of Natchez; mother-in-law, Delores Webb Dawson of Natchez; two sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Jones and husband, Eddie, and Bernice Turner and husband, Walter Jr.; two brothers-in-law, the Rev. Freddie Lee Dawson and wife, Lois, and Arthur Dawson and wife, Shirley, all of Natchez; a special nephew, Walter Turner Jr.; special cousins, Ernest and Mable Johnson of Memphis, Tenn., and Charlotte Harrison Baker of Lawrenceville, Ga.; four aunts, Selma Washington of Vidalia, Doretha Mackel and Althea Grinnell, both of Natchez, and Yvonne Mackel of Chicago; one great-aunt, Mildred Mazique Johnson of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and a number of beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.
Pallbearers will be members of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Natchez Police Department.
Honorary pallbearers will be her brother and brothers-in-law.
