NATCHEZ — The Mississippi River at Natchez is going down at a slightly faster rate than the National Weather Service’s predictions.
The river currently sits at 61.55 on the Natchez gauge, though the NWS predictions still say it will be at 61.8 until Monday.
Current NWS predictions say the river shouldn’t hit 61.5 until Wednesday. The river did begin cresting in Natchez a day before the NWS had predicted.
The current gauge readings may change, though, a NWS spokesperson said Friday. Wind or barge wakes can offer incorrect gauge readings.
