Good news warrants thank yous

Later today, Natchez-Adams County residents are expecting to hear some good economic news.
For a community that has spent the better part of a month closely focused on the rising Mississippi River and the months prior worrying about the population exodus the 2010 Census number indicated, some good news is overdue.
Though the details are being kept under wraps until the “big announcement” at 1 p.m. today, all indications are that a substantial new industrial project is coming to our community.
If so, that will be a great “hit” for our area only a year or so after being told privately by some state economic developers, “Not only are you not competing, you’re not even in the game!”
That was a tough pill to swallow.
What followed was a serious effort led by local business leaders to ensure that our community suited up and joined the “game” of professional economic development.
Although Gov. Haley Barbour, who has served the state well during his two terms, will make the announcement, one person is rarely responsible for such things.
If the announcement comes to pass and it delivers on bringing a sizable business investment to the county, the entire team of our community and state is to be thanked.
That team consists of both local and state elected officials, Natchez Inc.’s leadership and its board and all of the members of the business community who have invested in the public-private partnership of Natchez Inc.
Today’s stage may not be big enough for the dozens and dozens who deserve “thanks” but we all know who you are.
Our community is better off with your help and interest.
