Team effort makes us all proud

By all accounts, Tuesday was a great day for Natchez, Adams County and the rest of our region.
After months and months of work, an economic development project slated to bring more than $200 million in investment to the community was announced.
We welcome the investment from Elevance Renewable Sciences and look forward to their becoming a great corporate citizen of our community.
The investment and the 165 permanent jobs and several hundred construction-phase jobs came as welcome news for the community.
A key element that led to the successful landing the new Elevance Renewable Sciences project cannot be underestimated or ignored — our community worked together in a way that hasn’t been seen in decades, if ever.
All partners in the project from local government entities to Natchez Inc., and the Mississippi Development Authority worked in concert.
Putting together deals like this isn’t easy. Few successful economic development projects fall from the sky, and this one certainly didn’t.
We thank all of the parties involved.
In particular, the leadership of Adams County and the Adams County Port is to be commended.
Both entities stepped up to the plate and agreed to help the project by committing to port improvements — which when completed could also help the county land additional business development.
We’re excited by the renewed professionalism and team approach our community is taking with economic development. The ball is rolling, but more work is ahead.
Tuesday’s announcement should be the first of many. Destiny isn’t left up to fate. It’s what you make of it, working together.
