GREENVILLE, S.C. — Services with military honors for William Woodrow Davis, 93, of Greenville, S.C., who went to be with the Lord Monday, June 6, 2011, D-Day, will be at noon Friday at Remembrance Chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Jimmy Robinson of White Oak Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, in Greenville, S.C.
Visitation will be at the residence, 14 Shenandoah Drive.
Mr. Davis loved God, family and his country.
He was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Charlotte, N.C., the son of George W. and Mamie Elizabeth Davis. During his lifetime he owned and operated Delta Davis Trucking and earned an award from Mack Trucks for driving more than two million miles.
Mr. Davis was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. During his four years in the Air Corps, he earned nine medals for combat which included American Defense Medal, American Theater Ribbon, APT Service Medal, Philippine Liberation, GO 23 USAFFE 5 Feb. 1945, World War II Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and GO 2129 FEAF.
Mr. Davis was a lifetime member of The Elks, The National Rifle Association and was an honorary citizen of Natchez.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Christine MacMahon; and a dear friend, Avanell Roe.
Survivors include three children, Candi Davis and Charles Moroney, of Natchez, Lindsay Davis of Greenville and Terry Lipscomb of Columbia, S.C.; one granddaughter, PFC Kate A. Bear of the 2072nd Military Police Company; four nieces; one nephew; his caregiver, Becky Williams; and his friend, Mike Santospago.
