Big news wasn’t only good news

What an exciting week it was! We began the week with the knowledge that exciting news was coming, and by Tuesday afternoon we had all the details.
Elevance Renewable Sciences plans to invest $225 million in our community and hire 165 full-time workers. Even for those glass-half-empty folks out there who keep saying “I’ll believe it when I see it,” well, it’s much better to have a company to say that about than to have no prospects at all.
Elevance and Natchez Inc. certainly stole the show this week, but a few other great things sneaked in as well. Let’s review a few other headlines.
• Youth from Jefferson Street United Methodist Church spent a portion of the week doing mission work around the community. They volunteered for elderly in the community, worked at the Watkins Street Cemetery and showed loved to the children at the Natchez Sunshine Children’s Center. These youth, no doubt, learned plenty last week while in turn teaching others about the love of God. Thanks to these young men and women.
• Residents in Ferriday and Natchez enjoyed Second Saturday events this weekend, enjoying music and local shops. It’s great to have this monthly event to give area residents a chance to head to each area’s downtown.
• Ferriday High students Kanedra and N’Kendra Brooks are actively working to make the community around them a better place. The girls are active at their church — Doty Road Church of God — and in turn set a great role model for younger students. The sisters have a bright future and will likely brighten Ferriday along the way.
Life in our great community got a little brighter itself last week, and we can’t wait to dive into another week.
