NATCHEZ — The Duncan Park and Auburn areas suffered power outages late Saturday night after a concrete light pole was knocked over on John A. Quitman Boulevard, City Engineer David Gardner said.

Entergy Customer Service Manager Tim Runnels said an Entergy truck was involved in the power outage but would not disclose further details, saying an investigation is ongoing.

“I can’t talk about (the truck incident) until Entergy finishes its (safety) investigation,” Runnels said. “There are pretty strict rules on that when there’s a safety incident.”

Power was out in the Duncan Park and Auburn areas beginning at 11:42 p.m. Duncan Park’s power was restored at 12:27 a.m., but power wasn’t restored to the Auburn area until 6:02 a.m.

“(Friday) we had a storm come through and our men worked 16 hours, and we can’t let them work safely after that,” he said. “We had to pull some crews from Brookhaven to help.”

Entergy was able to isolate the problem to the Auburn area until the crews arrived, Runnels said.

Gardner said the city was able to get the street opened up right around daybreak.
