Lillian Florene Simmons Tate

HOPE, Ark. — Services for Lillian Florene Simmons Tate, 92, of Springhill, La., formerly of Hope, Ark., who died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in Springhill, will be at 2 p.m. today at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jessi Dickison officiating.

Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tate was born June 17, 1918, in Hope, the daughter of Alden and Minnie Lou Card Simmons.

She became a member of the Church of Christ early in life and her family was a founding member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Hope and later the Hope Church of Christ. She was retired from Howard Brothers Department Store. She loved to travel, especially with her younger sister, Sarah Lou. She loved to work in her flower beds and help her husband in his wonderful garden. They even had the honor of Yard of the Month while living in Hope.

Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James O. Tate; five brothers, Milton, Frank, Paul, A.F. and Guy; one sister, Pauline Durham; and one great-great-grandson, Payson Colvin.

Survivors include one son, Don Tate and wife, Lynda, of Vidalia; two granddaughters, Donna Sindle and husband, Dale, of Springhill, and Leslee Rowland and husband, Edward, of Guntown; four great-grandchildren, Megan and Michael Colvin, Jordan Sindle and Hannah Rowland; two great great-grandchildren, Addison and Kadi Colvin; two brothers, George H. Simmons of Pearl City, Hawaii, and John Simmons and wife, Rosie, of Fairfield, Texas; one sister, Sarah Lou May and husband, Lawrence Winfred of San Antonio, Texas; numerous and very special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to escecially thank AGAPE HOSPICE and special thanks to John Pickett, Sonja Brantley, Buster Bailey and Dejuana Petteway.
