FERRIDAY — Services for Rebecca Jane Olivia Ashley Mercer, 91, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, June 16, 2011, in Monroe, La., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Comer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Ratcliff officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mercer was born April 20, 1920, in Adams County, the daughter of Lonnie Nathan Ashley and Janie A. Gober. She was a resident of Ferriday and grew up near Kingston in Adams County. She attended school at the Kingston school house.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Mercer; her parents; one sister, Annie Laura Evans; and five brothers, Willis M. Ashley, George M. Ashley, Prim B. Ashley, Talmadge P. Ashley and Nathan Ashley.
Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Ewing of Fredericksburg, Texas; three grandchildren, Dennis W. Ewing of San Antonio, Texas, William A. Ewing of Fredericksburg and Diane Waldron of Layton, Utah; three sisters, Sarah L. Maples of Ridgecrest, Hazel C. Maples of Brookhaven and Dorothy M. Price of Sicily Island; seven great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
