NATCHEZ — Services for Jerry “Pops” Douglas, 107, of Natchez, who died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. today at Zion Flower Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home in Bude.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Douglas was born March 17, 1904, in Robinson Bottom, the son of Edward Douglas and Virginia Johnson. Previous employment include a longshoreman in New Orleans, auto industry in Flint, Mich., and the Box Factory in Natchez.
Mr. Douglas was older than 80 when he worked as a security guard for K&B Drug Store.
He was a member of the Hunting and Sportsman’s Hunting Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Percy King Sr.; three stepdaughters, Jessie B. Davis, Lottie M. Clayton and Louise Scott; and one stepbrother, Cleveland Smith Sr.
Survivors include one son, Charles Douglas Sr.; two stepdaughters, Birdie Jones and Laura Hawkins; a loving and devoted granddaughter, Helen White, all of Natchez; two grandsons, Charles Douglas Jr. of Austin, Texas and Derek Douglas of Cincinnati, Ohio; three nieces, Daisy Ware, Jeanette and Katie Duke; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Michael Jones, Danny Houston, Autry Clayton Sr., Charles Clayton, Marcus Norman Sr. and Richard Wright.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Douglas Jr. and Derek Douglas.
