Twice the garbage heap may be good

Trash talk is rarely a good thing, but recent trashy ideas by members of the Adams County Board of Supervisors may actually lead to some good.
Supervisors are trying to work with the City of Natchez to get each of their respective trash contracts onto the same cycle. Currently they are staggered with the county’s coming up for renewal one year and the city’s another year.
The idea behind bringing them together is wise. Logically, having one larger contract instead of two smaller ones means the community effectively may have more buying power, or leverage, when the contract comes due again.
That leverage might wind up saving taxpayers a little money by causing a more competitive bid situation, but in addition, the community might leverage their trashy weight to encourage more recycling options by any business seeking the waste removal contract.
It’s a good idea and one that we’re glad supervisor S.E. “Spanky” Felter proposed.
We’d encourage city and county leaders to look at how this could be done. Further, merging the clerical functions involved with billing and collecting payments for trash customers should also be considered.
This kind of thing is smart business and makes for better, more efficient government, and that’s no garbage.
