Come see Pilgrim performing arts finale

Lights! Cameras! And action, once again, at Pilgrim Baptist Church.
I have developed a new inspirational stage play that will be performed soon.
Just like our other productions, “The Passion of the Cross,” “If Lovin’ Him Is Wrong, I don’t Wanna Be Right,” “Be Careful What You Pray for, You Just Might Get It,” “Blue Butterfly,” “I Told The Storm,” “Don’t Drive Yo’ Mama Away” and so many more, this production will delight and inform.
This season finale is, “PLEASE!! Don’t Drive Me Away.”
Pastor Melvin White, officers along with the entire Pilgrim family invite all churches, women and men ministries, drama ministries and everyone to come at 6:30 p.m. July 31 to view this drama up, close and in person.
I believe this is one of the most heartfelt scripts I’ve ever written. This performance was debuted in 2003 at the Natchez High School on Mother’s Day. The auditorium was jammed with many patriots that had purchased tickets as gifts for their mother’s. It was a beautiful sight to behold to see parents rolling their parents in, in wheelchairs and on walkers to share an evening of watching a stage play together.
The beautiful part about this production is, there is no charge. It’s absolutely free to the entire public.
So if you missed the performance in 2003, we pray that you will have the opportunity to see it July 31.
Many of the cast members are from the original cast from the first production of “Don’t Drive Me Away,” unfortunately a couple of our casts has been called home to live the Lord since that show.
So this production is extra special and holds very near and dear to our hearts. Casting this show is Minister Terrie Carter, playing the role of “Mama.”
Minister Terrie has been with vg/CAMP Ministry since 2001, playing the role of “Mama” in my very first production of, “I Told The Storm” along with Pastor Leroy White.
I believe there is a “Big Mama” or “Madea” in every family and she fits that criteria.
Her real life soft spoken tone and sweet spirit fits to perfection with her stage character, like a hand and a glove. However, don’t make Mama mad.
She prays; she doesn’t play. The wealthy, evil and two-faced son-in-law, “Jackson” is played by Minister KeJuane Hawkins. I will play the role of “Beth,” “Mama’s” High Society daughter, “Jackson’s” wife.
The long lost, no-good rehabilitated son, Cain is played by Timothy Queen. Timothy is a very articulate actor, he never has a problem with delivering his role. Whenever I present him with a script, directs him how the role is portrayed, he always gives me that little something extra. I believe that is a very good attribute in becoming an extraordinary actor. I learned that from my producers and directors at the Natchez Little Theatre. (Thanks Layne, Tommy and Don).
Other casts are Velma Anderson as Nurse Emma, Peggy Scales as the hilarious waitress Una along with her side-kick waitress assistant, Baby Doll play by Engwin Yarne. Providing the music for this production is the passionate, one and only vg/CAMP featuring poly-cultural rhythms with Calvin Jarod Muhammad (guitar/double bass), Maurice Muhammad (congas/percussion) and Vera Zholondz (piano/keyboard).
This group invited me to their rehearsal at Alcorn in fine arts building and I never wanted to leave. Their music was so soothing to my spirit. The stage and prop designer is Edwin Green and crew.
Again we take this opportunity to invite each and everyone out to witness, this drama, “Please!! Don’t Drive Me Away,” July 31, at Pilgrim, 117 Pilgrim Blvd, Natchez.
