Happy Fourth of July!
It’s a wonderful day to enjoy our freedom with friends, family and good food.
The Lake St. John Flotilla kicked the holiday weekend off early Saturday, with fun on the lake. The annual event is one of the special ones that makes our area home to so many, and we are glad this year’s event occurred despite worries over the impact of Mississippi River flooding.
As you celebrate today, take some time to reflect on how great your community is by remembering some of the good news from last week.
-Work on the Vidalia Municipal Complex is on schedule. The new complex will be home to the city offices, fire department and police department. Construction is good for any community, and we are happy some important offices will soon have a new and improved home.
-The Community Alliance is pursuing plans for a downtown tree-planting project by seeking input from the public. It’s a great example of how important it is to seek opinions from the public before embarking on major projects.
-The 15th Habitat for Humanity house in Natchez was dedicated last week. The new family was preparing to move in and start a new chapter of their life. Thanks to the volunteers who make this non-profit possible.
Remember to head out to the bluff or designated riverfront viewing area at dusk tonight for the local fireworks show.
