FERRIDAY — For the second time this summer the Town of Ferriday will be offering Miss-Lou residents a two-hour break from the scorching heat Saturday through its Second Saturday Concert series.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rockabilly Plaza in Ferriday, the town will host a free concert open to the public.

Ferriday hosted the first concert of the series in June with two local musicians performing, and Mayor Glen McGlothin said the new concert set for Saturday is going to continue to feature local talent.

“This time we are featuring a band called Slow Ride,” he said. “They play everything from classic rock to rhythm and blues.”

McGlothin said Slow Ride features musicians from Ferriday, Vidalia and Natchez, making it a true Miss-Lou band.

“That’s why I have tried to book local musicians,” he said. “We are just trying to showcase all the musical talent we have from the area.”

McGlothin said the June concert was a great success for the town, and he hopes the concert Saturday will be even more of a hit.

“People always say that there is nothing to do in Ferriday, and I am trying to get them something to do through this concert series,” he said. “I want people to have something fun to do on Saturday that gets them out of the house.”

McGlothin said since the concert on Saturday will be during lunch, anyone who wants to bring a sack lunch to enjoy during the concert is encouraged.

“All you need is a lawn chair, a bag lunch and your friends,” he said. “It ought to be a fun time.”

Since the concert is located downtown, McGlothin said concert attendees will also have the ability to walk around and shop.

McGlothin said the series will continue into August and September, and he hopes to keep the series going next year.

“Hopefully we can carry on the series,” he said. “I know I am not going to be in office then, but it is something the people love that I would love to see continue.”

McGlothin said Rockabilly Plaza is shaded, and anyone wanting a good seat out of the sun needs to show up early for the concert.
