NATCHEZ — Procrastinators in Mississippi who suffered flood damage and financial burdens from the rising Mississippi River have one more day to register for FEMA aid.
So far 44 Adams County residents have already signed up, and Monday is the deadline to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for those affected by the May Mississippi River flooding.
Flood victims can register with FEMA until July 11 by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or at www.disasterassistance.gov.
Telephone registration is available between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.
The type of FEMA funding available for those who qualify includes housing assistance grants, which help pay rent incurred while rebuilding, minor home repairs and replacement of household items not covered by insurance.
Other types of grants may be available to replace personal property and help in meeting medical, dental, transportation and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by other insurance or government programs, the release said.
Several FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are also scheduled to close this week.
A FEMA report says that as of Friday, $41,533.80 in federal aid has been distributed to Adams County residents.
The report said $10,272,234.91 has been given to Mississippi River flood victims in 14 counties statewide.
Wilkinson County residences have received $156,706.10 from FEMA, and Jefferson County residents have received $3,891.41.
Counties that have received the most FEMA aid include Tunica County, at $4.1 million; Warren County, at $2 million; Bolivar County, at $1.2 million; and Yazoo County, at $1.1 million.
