Get informed about local candidates

Becoming jaded about our nation’s election process is fairly easy. One vote doesn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things, right?

It’s all really about whom you know not if your qualified or not. The person with the most money to campaign will win the most votes.

It’s easy to think such things, particularly in large national campaigns when most voters don’t ever actually get to meet the candidates.

But that’s not true at the local level, and such jadedness just doesn’t have any business being in our community.

All registered voters need to pay attention to candidates, don’t just take a friend’s word for it, find out for yourself who will make the best leader for our community.

With nearly a year before the ballots are cast, Natchez mayoral hopefuls are already raising their hands and saying, “I’m running.”

With such a field already forming, next year’s race is almost certain to be interesting.

But just around the corner another set of political races will get under way as citizens seek your support in county races, with the primaries early next month.

From county supervisors to constables, a number of important races will be decided, and often by only a few votes.

The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor two candidates’ forums this week at the Natchez Convention Center.

At 5:30 p.m. Monday, the county supervisors will be on stage to answer questions with other county candidates following them on Tuesday at the same time.

Please attend the free forums and learn a little more about the candidates. The less jaded and apathetic we are, the more informed the choices should be made at the voting booth.
