NATCHEZ — Services for Jerry Shepherd Sr., 78, of Natchez, who died Monday, July 18, 2011, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ God’s Son with the Rev. Samuel Watkins Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Shepherd was born Jan. 3, 1935, in Natchez, the son of Willie Shepherd Sr. and Beatrice Hargrave Shepherd. He was formerly employed by Holsum Bakery and was a member of Church of Jesus Christ God’s Son.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Willie Shepherd Jr.; one sister, Cordelia Mathious; and one granddaughter, Tabitha Shepherd King.

Survivors include his wife, Annie M. Gaylor Shepherd; three daughters, Carla Watkins and husband, Samuel, of Jackson, Patty Woods and husband, Ernest, and JoAnn Woods, all of Natchez; four sons, Eugene Barnes, Jerry Shepherd Jr. and wife, Barbara, and Levester Shepherd and wife, Cynthia, all of Natchez, and Boris Shepherd and wife, Alexandria, of Aurora, Colo.; one grandson who he reared as his son, Terry Bindon, of Natchez; two sisters, Dorothy Thomas of Saginaw, Mich., and Flora Ivory of Natchez; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
