VIDALIA — The Vidalia Little League Softball ages 13 and 14 All-Stars wasted little time getting started on the right foot Tuesday night.

Vidalia opened the first round of the Little League state tournament with an 18-0 win against Blanchard, putting them one game closer to a regional berth. The 13s and 14s will play again at 6 tonight.

Starter Paige Bryan got the win, going two innings and striking out five. Eight Vidalia players tallied multiple hits on the evening.

Head coach Greg Young said he couldn’t have asked for a better performance from his girls after Tuesday night’s game.

“They did an outstanding job from start to finish,” Young said. “Of course, the score showed that. They played pretty good defense and did pretty good on offense.

“We’re looking forward to winning (today) and hopefully Thursday. Of course, you can’t ever guarantee anything, but it looks like they’re on that road. It’s been an impressive season for all of them. They’re a very talented group.”

Katelynn Bertelsen went 3-for-5 for Vidalia, and Karlee Woodruff was 3-for-3 with two doubles. Nikki Harbor finished 4-for-5 with an outside-the-park homerun.

Micahla Hughes finished 2-for-3, and Bryan was 2-for-4. Taylor Rodgers and Macy Greer were also 2-for-4, and Cassie Gonzalez went 2-for-3.
