NATCHEZ — Services for Nell Burns Phillips, 84, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medial Center, will be at 11 a.m. . Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Phillips was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Natchez, the daughter of Robert Emmett Burns and Lena Lucille Stier Burns. She retired as office manager of the Adams County Chancery Clerk Office after 30 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James T. Phillips Jr.; five sisters, Kathleen Dickey, Elsie M. Burns, Louise Aubic, Anna Robson and Martha Brown; and two brothers, Robert E. Burns and Frederick Connor Burns.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Whitam of Pensacola, Fla.; five sons, James Turner Phillips III of Washington, D.C., Steve Phillips of Jackson, Cliff Phillips of Santa Fe, N.M., Richard Phillips of Sandy, Utah and Jeff Phillips of Natchez; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Carter of Natchez; and one brother, Charles M. Burns of Natchez.
The family requests memorials be made to a charity of choice.
