MONTEREY — A Clayton man is facing vehicular homicide charges after a one-vehicle crash in Monterey left his passenger, a Ridgecrest man, dead late Friday night.

William M. Robertson, 47, of Ridgecrest, was pronounced dead at the scene, a Louisiana State Police release said.

Henry R. Reinninger, 53, of Clayton, was driving a 1992 Geo Metro on Boggy Bayou Road in Concordia Parish when he reportedly ran the vehicle off the road just after 11 p.m.

A state police investigation revealed that Reinninger was impaired at the time of the crash, the release says.

After Reinninger was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody and transported to the Concordia Parish Correctional facility where he was booked for operating a vehicle while intoxicated — second offense, careless operation and vehicular homicide.

According to investigating troopers, Reinninger was traveling west on Boggy Bayou Road in a 1992 Geo Metro when the vehicle entered a curve to the right, the release says.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled left into the eastbound lane of traffic and continued on the left side of the roadway.

Reinninger unsuccessfully attempted to steer the vehicle back onto the road, before the vehicle rotated around, slid down a grassy embankment and struck a culvert.

The vehicle came to rest on its roof after rolling over a number of times, the release says.

Reinninger was transported to Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday with minor injuries.

Both the driver and passenger were reportedly wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Troopers are still investigating the case.

Troop E troopers, who cover Concordia and nine other parishes, have investigated 41 fatal crashes so far this calendar year, resulting in 43 fatalities, the release says.

“Troopers would like to remind motorists to never get behind the wheel impaired and never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver,” the release says.

Funeral services for Robertson have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday, according to the funeral home.
