FERRIDAY — Services for the Rev. Charles Mitchel Alexander Sr., 71, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. David McCormick and the Rev. Russell Wagoner officiating.
Burial will follow at Holly Grove Cemetery in Wisner, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Rev. Alexander was born Dec. 9, 1939, in Winnsboro, La., the son of Farrar Martin Alexander and Ruth French Alexander. He was a 1958 graduate of Natchez High School. In 1976, he was called into the ministry and attended Louisiana Missionary Baptist Institute and Seminary in Minden, La. He pastored for more than 24 years at churches in Louisiana and Texas.
Rev. Alexander served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Farrar Martin Alexander Jr.; and three sisters, Marilyn Bailey, Martha Iseman and Carolyn Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Belle Simms Alexander; one son, Mickey Alexander and wife, Katrina, of Natchez; one grandson, Charles Martin Alexander; one brother, Robert Alexander and wife, Shirley, of Metairie, La.; two sisters, Katherine Bates and Frances Hammond, both of Natchez; and one sister-in-law, Estelle Alexander of Natchez.
Pallbearers will be Allen Campbell, Jim Campbell, Phillip Hill, Chris Beshea, Tim Beach, Walter Beach and Jay Hamilton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Lively and Eddie Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday to help with funeral expenses.
