FERRIDAY — Services for Verna Lea Smith, 85, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, La., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Era Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Baker officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Mayna, La., the daughter of Adolph Bryan and Julia Runnels Bryan. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Ferriday.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Gertie Beauboeuf, Vertie Beauboeuf, Maudel Flaherty, Lillian Terrell and Muriel Barrett; and two brothers, Julius Bryan and Leslie Bryan.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Hilton Lee Smith; two sons, Frank Smith and wife, Sharon, of Zachary, La., and Michael Elliott-Smith and wife, Leslie, of Alexandria; two brothers, Calvin Bryan of Alexandria and Coney Bryan and wife, Bernice, of Ferriday; one sister, Sadie Lipsey of Monterey; one grandson, Eric Smith and wife, Cathy; three granddaughters, Nicole Harding and husband, Josh, Lindsey Elliott-Smith and Megan Elliott-Smith; one great-grandson, Dalton Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Chelsea Smith.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
