Section of East Stiers to close Monday

NATCHEZ — A section of East Stiers Lane will be closed off early Monday morning, Public Works Director Robbie Dollar said.
The city is still working to fix draining issues on the street, he said, so it will be closed from 7:30 a.m., weather permitting, until late Wednesday afternoon at the corner of East Stiers and Martin’s lanes.
A section of Smith Street at Martin’s Lane had to be closed off from Aug. 15-Aug. 17 for the same repair issues, and Dollar said a third section will be closed off in the coming weeks.
City Engineer David Gardner said crews are working to widen inlets, or openings that allow waters to leave the street and go into underground pipes, to avoid flash floods on the street.
The project’s total cost is approximately $8,500, and Gardner said with the possible exception of hiring a few local contractors, all of the work will be done by city employees.
Signage for detours will be provided.
