NATCHEZ — Services for Fred E. Matlock, 76, of Brookhaven, who died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at his residence, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Balkcom officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Matlock was born July 15, 1935, in Maple Springs, Tenn., the son of Eldon Matlock and Exie Franks Matlock. He was a retired electrician with NKC of America in Memphis, Tenn. He was a loving husband, father and friend. Mr. Matlock was always there to lend a helping hand.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a collector of a number of things. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Matlock was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Shawn Matlock; two brothers, Harold Matlock and Rafe Matlock; and one sister, Cornelia Matlock.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce H. Matlock; one daughter, Jennifer Matlock Smith and husband, Doyle; two grandchildren, Hailey Leggett and husband, Clay, and Ashton Smith; one great-grandchild, Karter Leggett; one sister, Clara Mize; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Cannon, Anita Temple and husband, John Sr., and Eva Matlock; one brother-in-law, Charles B. Hunt Jr.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Noble, Darrell Leary, Dwayne Covington, Chris Chain, Stephen Staeden and Marell Allen.
