William R. “Bill” Ulmer

CENTREVILLE — Services for William R. “Bill” Ulmer, 72, of Centreville, who died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, in Centreville at Field Memorial Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. today at Newman’s Funeral Home at 155 S. Cosby St., in Centreville, with the Rev. Eric Greene officiating.

Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Centreville. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Ulmer, a Baton Rouge native, was preceded in death by his parents, R.B. and Mary Alice Field Ulmer.

Bill was a 1957 graduate of Istrouma High School, Baton Rouge, and a 1961 graduate of Northeastern School of Pharmacy of Monroe, LA.

He served as volunteer baseball coach for Babe Ruth League, Little League and several other teams. He was selected to coach the 13 year old All Stars in Wilkinson and Amite Counties. Bill was an avid Centreville Academy Tigers and LSU Tigers fan.

He was a member of Thomson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Centreville.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years and 11 months, Anna “Ankey” Martin Ulmer of Baker. They met while he was the pharmacist at Stone-Blankenship Drugs in Baker.

After Bill and Ankey married, they moved to Centreville where Bill was the co-owner and operator of Field Clinic Pharmacy for 30 years. After retiring from that position, he was the pharmacist at Fred’s Dollar store when it opened in Centreville.

Bill was an avid fisherman and hunter and was President of McUl Hunting Club for more than 20 years. He and Ankey were hunting and fishing companions for their entire married life.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, R.B. and Mary Alice Field Ulmer.

He is also survived by one son, son, William R. “Billy” Ulmer II and wife Leah; one daughter, Erin Ulmer Hall and husband Steven; seven grand children, Haylee, Krissy and Allie Hall and Mary Catherine, Josh, Maggie and Claire Ulmer; one brother, Sam Ulmer, of Little Rock, Ark., and a number of nieces ad nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Thomas Lobrano, Dr. R. J. Field III, Pat Conerly, Brian Berry, Clifton Van Cleave, and Christopher Van Cleave.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. David McGraw, Dr. Bob Lewis, John Edwards and Bill Murray.
